Oranjestad, the capital and largest city of Aruba, is located on the southern coast near the western end of the island country. The city’s name,Oranjestad, means “Orange Town” and is derived from the first King William I of the Netherlands, whose title included Prince of Orange. During our visit, we spent some time at the wonderful Eagle Beach. Eagle Beach, also known as Arend Beach, is renowned for its iconic Fofoti trees, which create a picturesque backdrop. These unique trees thrive on seawater and are shaped by the ocean breeze.
It boasts the widest beach in Aruba, with soft white sand that feels like silk underfoot. The beach is perfect for leisurely strolls, sunbathing, or simply enjoying the view. The neighborhood surrounding Eagle Beach features many low-rise resorts, blending seamlessly with the natural beauty. Unlike high-rise areas, this beach remains relatively quiet and serene.
The designated swimming zones offer calm waters, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities. Boat tours and jet skiing are also popular here.
If you visit between March and September, keep an eye out for turtles nesting or hatching on the shore. It’s a magical experience!
Oranjestad comes alive at night with its vibrant Renaissance Marketplace. The Renaissance Marketplace is located on Lloyd G. Smith Boulevard. This open-air shopping hub blends the charm of an outdoor piazza with upscale shopping. Immerse yourself in Aruban culture, share a cocktail, and go beyond the usual. The Marketplace is open daily from 8 am till late evening hours.
